About Us

About Lotus Blind Welfare Trust of India

A Hostel was started in 2003 with a strength of just three girls and over the years, the Hostel has grown to its present size with an average strength of about 50 inmates. The Hostel which was operating in rented premises in the initial years is now running in a spacious double storeyed Building (Main and Annexure) provided by Surana & Surana Public Charitable Trust, who have been kind enough to provide this facility free of Rent from 2007 which is a great blessing for us.
Sree Banaskantha Palanpur Association, a Registered Public charitable Trust, were also helping LOTUS for many years by providing free Groceries and bearing a portion of the administrative expenses.

LOTUS provides freefood, accommodation and medical facilities, educational accessories for their education and training. Volunteers are arranged for reading, writing exams (Scribes)and for preparing charts and assignments  to all its inmates.

Apart from this, LOTUS also arranges annual eye screening by reputed Eye Hospitals and a few girls have acquired partial vision. Periodical medical care is also given for improving their general health. LOTUS also provides free coaching classes for computer training and for preparing for competitive examinations, apart from improving communication skills etc by paid Professionals in the respective fields. A monthly stipend is also given to the girls for undergoing these courses.

These projects run by the Trust have helped more than 250 girls securing jobs in Banks, Schools, Colleges and Government departments and Private companies, which has enabled them to lead a happy and independent life without depending on others for their livelihood.

LOTUS Hostel has a full-fledged staff support system employing one full time Residential Warden, Residential Cooks(2), Office Clerk(1) and part time Sweeper(1) with salary, and all of whom are women.. CCTV Cameras have also been installed in the Hostel for the safety and security of the inmates.
The Lotus Trust bears its expenses exclusively from Donations received from Public/NGOs and without any financial support from the Government. For every inmate of the hostel the trust presently spends Rs.3,000 per month which will increase with the inflation and the price rise over a period of time. The Noble Donors can celebrate their auspicious days of their Birthdays, Wedding days of them, their parents, their sons, daughters and family members and also the anniversary day of their ancestors with our hostel inmates, by generously contributing for breakfast/lunch/dinner or for the whole day with their donations in Cash, Cheque or DD or Online.

LOTUS has long term plans to move into a larger Building which can accommodate more girls, setting up a Braille Library, Recording cum Audio Library for the use of the inmates to study, exchange and write so that dependence on external readers will be minimized.

We have CSR Certificate from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs – Government of INDIA, to facilitate corporates to allocate funds under their CSR activities.
